Never Get Over Confident with Your Sword Techniques

Always step into a sword fight with a great deal of confidence. But no matter what always keep a level-head before, during, and after the sword fight. Never get excited or over confident, during a sword fight. Your elbows should never be stretched, but bent towards your body. The
sword is the one that needs to be extended in the direction of your opponent and not the your arms.

If the sword you have is long, then you need to maintain a greater distance away from your opponent. if your sword has a short blade, you need to stay close to your opponent.

You need to stand perpendicular, with the sword pointed directly at your opponent. This will make sure that a limited part of your body is facing your opponent with a less likely chance of getting sliced.

Skilled and Focused Sword Techniques

You will need to keep sufficient distance between your feet and keep track of your opponent and the moves he/she has made adn are making. When you parry, the postion of the blade should be closer to the your body for self defense. The main point while you are defending, should be to
always keep looking for the opportunity to counter your opponents attacks.

Make good judgment of the changing conditions. A skilled and focused swordsman will quickly analyze all the weak and strong points of thier opponent. They will then make a quick assessment of thier surroundings with respect to all related factors in the initial stage of the sword fights. The great difference between two sword fighters are not based on their skill and expertize alone, but on how well they can read the other sword fighter and thier surrounding conditions, as they are sword fighting.

Warriors learned these sword techniques

Now in ancient Rome, a sword fight and the related weapons was known to be used by the army and the gladiators. The Gladius, or (as we call it today) the sword, used by the gladiators, was very much shorter than the ones the army used in battle.

However, both of these types of warriors learned these techniques with a wooden sword first, then they would make the transition as needed to the more sharpened steel swords. It is a know fact, this made them more focused at learning the skillful moves they needed to have.

Ancient history shows that, the German, Italian and Spanish sword arts of swordsmanship grew a great deal during both the medieval and renaissance periods. The swordsmanship in ancient China was not altogether secretive, but had a very great part in the martial arts side of things.

We find that in ancient Japan, the sword arts of Kendo progressed into a very popular sport and to this day is still practiced. However, the swordsmanship in our modern days is more popular as fencing, which now is a great part of modern sports.

Best way to correct your sword techniques

The best way to correct the swing, focus, and edge angle of your sword arts is to enroll in some training in the sword arts and practice, practice, practice. You need to keep in mind, the swords will not take a whole lot of high impact, leaving the blade to asorb the constant blows.

The batttle ready swords are made to withstand the impact of another blade so that both blades could asorb the impact of the blow. For this reason you need to make a target, as mentioned below;

If you need to prefect your techniques, I would recommend that you take a thick rolled up rug and hang it at the height you want and pratice on it. This will give you a cutting target and something you will be able to focus your techniques on.

Always make sure the sword has a sharp blade, when using on a cutting target. Try a test cut first, before getting into your practice session. The test cutting with swords is called Shizhan in Chinese. It has historical precedents from the Qing Dynasty.

Ancient chinese warriors trained in these ancient skills using caoren, or grass men. So remember, "practice does not make perfect". It's really "perfect pratice make perfect".
